In Memoriam: Walter R. Cannon

Walter R. Cannon was a distinguished Nevada trial attorney, respected leader, and trusted mentor whose career and character left a lasting mark on the legal community and this firm.

Born on December 26, 1946, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Walt served as a Military Police officer in the United States Army before beginning his legal career in Nevada in 1976. As a shareholder at Olson, Cannon & Gormley, he built a reputation for excellence in advocacy, sound judgment, and unwavering professionalism. His many professional distinctions included admission to the United States Supreme Court, certification as a civil trial advocate, and election as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Beyond his accomplishments, Walt was deeply committed to mentoring young attorneys and supporting his colleagues. He was generous with his time and guidance, and he remained invested in the success of those he mentored throughout their careers.

Walt was also known for his warmth, wit, and steadfast loyalty. He valued relationships, approached life with humility, and carried a deep sense of responsibility to his family, friends, and clients.

He passed away on July 1, 2024. His legacy endures in the firm he helped shape, the profession he served with distinction, and the many lives he influenced.
